Lego Class #2 - Sept. 25, 2013

Lego Class #2 was off with a brilliant start.  We did a ten minute speed build and then learned a little about the history of Lego from a video put out by the Lego corporation.  We only watched the first half in today's class.  Next week, we'll finish off the video and then I'll post the link for it.  I don't want to give any spoilers away, but it sure is interesting to see how LEGO all began.

This class's technique was the interlocking brick technique.

The Little Brick Schoolhouse Glossary defines interlocking as:
"stacking LEGO bricks by overlapping bricks from one row on top of another row, in the same way that brick houses and block walls are built. By interlocking bricks, you can't remove a single brick without removing others. Interlocking bricks makes for a strong and stable structure."

An interlocking LEGO brick wall would look like this: (Real bricks not necessary)

We went outside to  view the perfect example of interlocking bricks - the church's brick wall!  We could see how interlocking bricks added sturdiness and stability to the wall.  We then went back inside to create our own brick walls out of LEGO.

Afterwards, I challenged the class to build a dog out of their LEGO bricks.  We had some awesome submissions!!  Here are a few pics from the first couple days of class:
